Post exhaust tone???

On my way into work this morning, a late 80's mustang pulls next to me (i was driving my crappy dailey driver, 84 chevy p.u.).
nice frigin car, cowled hood, nice lumpy idle, no chrome or spoiler, narrowed rear end, very very nice car.
he pulls away and I hear this real low kinda tinny sounding exhaust. I've heard it before, but always on highly modified cars..
sweet sound!!!!
his exhaust was cut off under the car so i couldn't see the diameter.. but what gives that sound?? is it just the way a high perf motor sounds or ?????

thx...

Some day (3:73 gears & N2O)!!!

will this ever end????

Dumps sound sweet. That coulda been it. My car's tone changed a bit after my dumps got put on. Could just be a big @ss motor and race mufflers. If he has a cowl hood and a lumpy idle, who knows what he had under that hood?

long tube headers and a big fat cam are usually to blaim for such cool tinny sounds.

My MAC system with long tubes sounds pretty mean. After the cam, heads, intake, and all the other goodies were installed it just got meaner. It emits a really low growl with a tinny/raspy sound at high revs. IMO it's the best sounding exhaust I have heard on a street car. You can hear my exhaust clips here... http://www.mustangwarehouse.com/exha...und-clips.html

See if that sounds anything like what you are talking about. Note: these clips were recorded when my car was completely stock except for the full MAC exhaust system.

Cool

That's one thing my car's missing, a great exhaust (among some other things - juice/blower)......an awesome exhaust system. I listened to your clips 2FastLX....nice sound. I'm looking at either a full MAC from headers back or a DynoMax system. How much for each (complete price)? Any ideas?

If you go with the same system I have it'll run you around $700-$750 depending on where you buy it. Following the link in my sig will keep you close to the lower end of that price range. I went with the full legth headers, Pro Chamber, and cat-back with chrome tips.

If you have moderate engine mods your car will sound quite a bit meaner than mine does in the clips. I get people telling me at stop lights how good the car sounds

Cool

Thanks 2Fast....that site had the best prices I've seen. Your car sounds mean, I hope mine will too. It sounds pretty good w/ just the 2 chamber flows.
