I'd be interested to know the answer to this also. I am ready to buy a power adder and am now faced with the hard decision of which to go with. Do I want the low-end grunt of the positive displacement blowers, or would I like a more powerful top-end charge of the centrifugal. I don't know just yet. I don't really make it to the track to often but the loud Vortech's sound so darn good. Anyways, not wanting to steal this post from LX XLR8R, how are the Kenne Bell's and how much do they cost?

Kenne Bell Blowers have full boost the moment you start your car, which is better (In my oppinion) than centerfugal blowers, because they have to be in the high RPM's to be getting full boost. they are quiet so you can crush your victoms in a stealth like manner!
Go for it, ive never heard of anything gone wrong with a kenne bell. Eat some Slomaros, & some vettes too!! ------------------ No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe (Sounds Mean), K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), 198.9 rwhp @4200 (235 Motor!!), 285 lbs-ft @2900 (336 Motor!!!). |

Actually, last time I checked the Kenne Bell makes max boost at 1800rpms, not at idle, still if you are racing at 1000rpms, you've got bigger problems that the blower boost.

I've had one for almost 2 years now and I like it. You have full boost by 2000 rpm and keep it all the way to rev limiter. In my opinion you can't beat a postive displacement blower for street driving but they they aren't serious race blowers. I don't know what they max out at but I do know that a friend of mine with the older/smaller KB blower was making over 500 RWHP before he split his block. So I guess the bottom line is that if you want a great street blower capable of making 500+ RWHP then the KB is an excellent choice. If you want a full race blower capable of making 600-1000 RWHP then look into the centrifugal blowers. Now before anybody gets upset I want to clarfiy that I am not saying that centrifugals won't make a good street blower but that they are best at the track and the postive displacements are best on the street but both will still do quite well in any enviroment but excell in differant applications from each other. Let me know if you have any other questions and I will do my best to answer them. Good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

Save yourself the trouble and don't buy a Kenne Bell. You'll probably regret it as I did.
You see, I owned a Kenne Bell blower for over four years and 70,000 miles. The first head unit made noise and had to be returned. The second through fourth head units had internal oil leaks and had to be replaced. Because of the Kenne Bell blower, I also had to replace 3 power steering pumps and 2 A/C pulleys. This is because the blower shared the same drive belt as the accessories. Remember, blowers require a lot of power to turn, and that makes a lot of drag(tension) on the belt. That's why I was losing accesories left and right. That didn't happen with my old Paxton, or my ATI. Send me a private message if you want more reasons why this blower is not worth it. ------------------ '91 LX Procharger, 3 row intercooler, extrude honed Cobra intake, Mac full Length Headers, 30# inj., 73mm C&L, 75mm tb, E303 cam, 289 rods, ported E7 heads, MSD, T-Rex w/255 lph Walbro, 5 lug conversion, Cobra R wheels, 3.27 gears and Moser Axles. Now you guys have me really interested... how are they as far as detonation? Do they require an intercooler or anything like that to stay efficient and not detonate? Also, what are the price ranges for the Kenne Bell blowers?

Well, I've been running the 1500 for about 12000 miles with NO problems at all, not even a belt problem. As far a boost and detonation I run 11psi of boost w/o an intercooler and about 3/4 degree retard on my BTM and it fine for 12.6 @ 112mph all day long. If your more of a street racer than this is the ticket with easy install and no maintance at all. You get everything you need in one kit for around $3400 new give or take w/ shiping.

Hey Noong, that's about what my LX was turning with Kenne Bell: 12.40s at 113 on McCrearies. I didn't use any timing retard, and never blew a head gasket.
With 12k miles on your blower, I'd definitely check the blower oil level frequently, say at every fill up. I wish you luck with your supercharger. It's a blast on the street but it caused ongoing problems for me. If you ever want tuning suggestions, well, I spent a lot of time with the KB unit. Honestly, I like my ATI a lot more. With only 8 lbs. of boost at the intake it's definitely making more power than the KB ever did. I can occasionally break traction in third gear just by mashing the go pedal, which is something that the KB blower would never accomplish. ------------------ '91 LX Procharger, 3 row intercooler, extrude honed Cobra intake, Mac full Length Headers, 30# inj., 73mm C&L, 75mm tb, E303 cam, 289 rods, ported E7 heads, MSD, T-Rex w/255 lph Walbro, 5 lug conversion, Cobra R wheels, 3.27 gears and Moser Axles. |

Dont get the Kenne Bell. No I havn't had one, but Ive seen dynos from them. They make HUGE amounts of low end torque but very little top end HP, which is what you want to run fast in the 1/4. Looks at these guys cars, they are turning 112mph traps with heads/cam etc, and a 11psi blower? **** they would be over 120 if it was a Vortech, Or paxton etc.
Ive seen a dyno on a car with gt40's, E-303 etc. With a 10psi Kenne Belle, it made 484TQ and only 340RWHP. Thats not much RWHP for 10psi of boost through that kind of setup after a dyno tune. They are good for heavy Automatic cars that are slugs off the line. Definatly not right for your setup. On its way: Paxton Sn-89 with dyno tuning and long tubes. Just added: B&M Ripper, Weldin Subframes, & Turn downs! 13.2@106mph |
