Default 95 cobra vs. 02 gt

I have a friend with a 95 cobra who wants to race me in my parents 02 GT. I just wanted some opinions on who would win. THeyre both pretty much stock. The cobra only has an off road h-pipe.

Probably the '02 GT, as '94/'94 Cobras put out about 240hp at the crank, whereas the '02's put out what, 270something?

This is a question in response to beanhead's numbers, haven't mustangs been rated in rear wheel horsepower since the begining of the fox body (all newer cars for that matter)?

My bad, I think you're right... I was just looking at some stock '03 Cobra RWHP dyno print outs, and saw 391, and I know that '03 Cobra's, stock run 390.

Cool, now I feel better about my '94, which I see you have too!

Mustangs are not rated by they're rear wheel hp numbers, they are rated at the flywheel. The 03 Cobra is under rated. Ford says they put out 390hp, but it's really like 420hp. A stock 99+ GT generally dyno's at around 230 rwhp

Also, the 94-95 is under rated as well. They really make about 260 hp and generally dyno at about 10 less hp at the back wheels than 99+ GT's.

The race may be closer than you think.

IMO, It's going to come down to the better driver on the street, I would like to think the Cobra would have the upper hand though, let us know what happens.

Also, everywhere I have seen HP advertised, it is from the numbers produced at the flywheel.
