lowered suspension question
Hey everyone,
I have a question, after lowering my car with eibach springs and adding kyb shocks it feels real stiff. I am not so worried about it but, when I go over railroad tracks or large bumps it almost feels like I bottom out. I have C/C plates also. Anyone else have problems with this setup on a 94 Convert GT? It seems to ride okay but very rough over bumps. Maybe just me, my other rides are a 97 escort(mileage) car and family minivan. Not much to compare to. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, John

Welcome to the world of lowered suspensions!!!
It's really good for tenderizing one's rump. Did you put the rubber isolators on the top and bottom of the springs? They make all the difference in the world. I'm running high rate "c" springs and I quite enjoy being thrown around the cabin. The trick for obstacles such as tracks (and I'm being serious) is to speed up before you hit them. This way, the car "flies over" the obstacle instead of falling down into it. It's also great for getting the girlfriend to scream as you barrel down the street torwards some huge pothole! Have fun!

thanks for the reply
Hey crazypete,
Thanks for the welcome to lowered mustangs. I tried speeding up the car over tracks, I actually get sideways, a little squirly. Do you or anyone else know how I can tell if my struts are at the bottom of their travel. With new springs I get a limited amount of travel when pushing down on fender, does not bottom out but not sure how close to bottom I am. Of coarse KYB tells me these shock work fine with lowered mustangs. Just looking for a few more "that's the way it is" statments. Anyone else. John

I'm still running the old, worn out shocks and struts and here's how you can tell when they bottom out: You'll be driving over some obstacles "bumpity bumpity bumpity WHAM!!!! bumpity". When you feel the wham go through the entire cabin, that was your shock bottoming out. So short of that, your shocks are probablty working

If your springs are much higher rate the rear shocks won't be enough to to keep the car from boucing. Have some one drive your car and follow behind, you may see it bouncing like a pogo stick. If that's the case you don't have enough rebound dampening. If not it's just stiff, tire presure a couple pounds plus or minus will make a big difference in the ride.

Did you replace the stock bumpstops with shorter ones?

erl2589,
The coils are correct part number for my car, so I assume they are designed for the weight of the vehicle. Car does not bounce at all, the nose dive is completely eliminated. Tire pressure is about 35psi, will probably drop to 32psi and see if it makes the ride better. Pyromaniac79, Springs came with shorter stops. Based on all posts to this question I am guessing that this is the way it will ride. I am very happy with the handling and all around driveablility I received from the change. It also does not look like a 4x4 anymore. I can live with a rough ride, as long as it looks and handles good, which it does. Thanks again, John
