Question AODE or C-4??

A friend of mine has a 95 GT Convertable(all stock) w/the AODE which needs a rebuild, about $1200 to rebuild. But he was considering a C-4. I advised keeping the factory trans cause his motor is stock and will prop stay that way. Any recommendations?

Thanks...

I agree with you if he is going to keep the motor stock. The C4 is a far stouter unit, but he could get good response from the stocker with the addition of a shift kit and valve body. We have all heard the "I'm going to keep it basically stock..." story. Maybe he should just go with the C4 now and save the hassle later once the Vortech XX is in place./

I'd agree with keeping the od, but ONLY if a few important durability mods are made - don't waste the money on a totally stock rebuild. While rebuilding, it's very little difference in cost to use hi perf clutch plates & steels, better accumulators, a good shift kit, a better od band, and by all means a good plate type cooler and temp gauge. Then use either a synthetic like Mob 1 and keep the trans temps down to max of 170, or change fluid quite often, like 20k or less, especially if over 170 temps. Talk to www.levelten.com, www.baumannengineering.com or Art Carr for those kinds of upgrades. Actually, one of their built trans might not cost much more than a totally stock rebuild and you'll have twice the durability and somewhat increased performance. Add a good quality 2500 rpm lockup torque converter, and you won't believe the difference.

Give Greg at MV Performance a call. He's been doing some absolutely fantastic things with the AODE lately. He's got one running in Trophy Stock that's leading the field with absolutely no breakage over the course of the season. I think MV is located in north Georgia.
