Default help

I noticed the past couple of months that I am loosing horsepower. I did a complete tune up and nothing changed. Even changed all of my filters. I checked the plugs they are all burning fine, put new distributor cap and wires as well. I noticed that there is a lot of burnt oil around the tranny area. I think my rear main is leaking. My engine is idling very rough (idles around 500rpm) Timing is still ok. The engine (stock 302) has a lot of miles on it and im wondering if the engine as a whole is dying. Should I take a compression test?? what should i do???...is it time to look into getting my 351w

detail's? efi? carb? mods?

I mean dude, you gotta understand, people ask these questions quite a bit, some people say example:
'my car overheats in traffic'
But this person fails to mention that it's a 408 stroker with 11:1 compression, and an autozone electric fan
You did mention your car idles at 500? thats a start, definately a problem there, and id say you could have a bad maf? but does it 'pop' thru the intake or exhaust?

I would do a compression check or even better is a leakdown test. If the rings/pistons and valves/seats aren't sealing, then no matter what you do it's not going to run right. Make sure the engine is mechanically sound and then go from there.

ya sorry forgot to give you more details, it is stock except for h pipe and flowmaster and bbk fenderwell cold air intake, and the mufflers do pop when coasting when around 2000 rpm.
