Bench test it for what? Resistance to collapse? My general rule of thumb is to swap them out about every thirty five or forty passes, good or bad. That's why I've always got several sets for sale on my website. I like to get them out of the motor before I can take the rocker arm and collapse the lifter by hand. This isn't necessarily bad for a low rpm street motor, but I a stronger lifter at the high revs that I push my motor. Honestly though, for a mild street build the lifters should outlast the rest of the motor.
