Getting new alternator
My car needs a new alternator and I was wondering what else I could do while Im changing that. I was thinking about taking out the A/C sense I'll be taking the belt off, anything else worthwhile?

I bought the alternator from a salvage yard for $35. The install is real easy, especially if you get wiring harness when you get the alt. Try the link above, it is step by step. |

Yeah, 3G conversion is worth it. You can pull off the smog pump and everything that goes to it too.

does something like this accomplish the same as a 3G swap? or would this powermaster alternator not solve the problematic spade connector? (this is from summitracing.com):
Vendor: Powermaster Product Line: Powermaster Race Alternators Finish: Black An alternator that gives your ride power. Ford: 1986-93, 140 amp, black, designed for a serpentine belt, race alternator This alternator gives your ride horsepower by making sure your electrical and ignition systems have enough voltage to operate properly. It features high amperage ratings, one wire hookup, gold battery post, and a black heat dispersant coating.

The Powermaster is what my brother runs. Just one wire to the Battery.
I did the 3G, because it was a little cheeper (Plus, I liked the way it looked better)

so would this powermaster alternator solve the problematic spade connector? since its one wire hookup i would say yes???
also, i dont see how the 3G is cheaper. the link above said a 3G costs $220 at Pep Boys, while the Powermaster from Summit Racing costs $187. The powermaster looks $33 cheaper unless the 3G can be had for less elsewhere.

Sorry, I bought mine used for $70. That was a big part of the savings. I also bought the sator plug and power wire from pa-performance.com for 70. Advanced Auto had 3G's for 160 new. Either one would be good for your car.
As for the connector I would assume yes.

We went with the PA Performance 130A alt for our 88GT. Really impressed with quality, support, and life time warranty. Price is $199, and you can get a wiring kit that fixes the known problem with OEM Ford alt wiring.
