Default Recommended spark plugs?

I need a new set of spark plugs... The Autolites I'm running right now have been fouled out from running pig rich due to poor AFPR adjustments, then lean due to MAF sensor problems.

What plugs would you guys recommend with my current mods? I'd like to stick to Autolites unless anyone knows of a better plug. I need a copper or something with a big electrode, since the car loses a tune very quickly, and I know how easy those platinums are to ruin.


Also, do you guys recommend any particular gap? I've just been using the factory gap.

autolites/motorcraft plugs are crap when u start making serious (600+hp) on spray! i've had too many to melt down to count. ac delco holds up a little better but by far the best has been the ngk's

No flame intended: I understand that is your real world experience and that is fine. But that's an awfully general statement to make about those brand of plugs. I'm making over 600 HP and I never melt down my Autolite 3922 plugs with the correct tune. I have however melted down NGK's with a lean tune. And I would never put an AC Delco plug in my car

I run AC Delco R44XLS in my heads, on the 150 shot I run R43XLS. I've tried the champions, they didn't work so well, fouled out pretty quick. I've never tried Autolites, or NGKs, I was told that I needed NGK BCPR5ES for Edelbrock heads tho.

no flame taken. i've melted down about every type of plug i've put in my car.. but only 2 ngk's EVER i just post my experience and let whoever buy whatever they want..

one of the ngk's i melted was on 13lb of boost run and 325 shot on top of that.

thats about double the 600hp mark mentioned before.

Well what I'm basically looking for is a plug that'll last a good while, keep the car running nice and smooth, and not foul easily. Because the way the air temperature keeps changing (FL can't decide whether it wants to be winter or summer right now), I find myself tweaking with the AFPR fairly often....and as I mentioned earlier, I leaned the last set of plugs out, then richened the crap out of them. Now the car stumbles at idle...and it isn't from the cam because it never used to stumble idling at 1100 rpms. And it surges REAL bad too, but that's a separate problem I think that's usually started by running the a/c.

the ngk's will tend to outlast other plugs when going from one extreme to another.. IN MY OPINION.

Autolites for me also.
IMO if you are burning down plugs, your pistons aren't far behind.

I totally agree the NGK's are a great plug. Will they produce more power than an Autolite plug... I doubt it. Will they last longer... I bet they will. But I change plugs so often I never really wear a set of plugs out. At $0.89 per plug for Autolites I can justify changing them a couple of times per racing season. I guess that's all I'm trying to say.

correct.. but have u ever tried to tune something over 1000hp? takes a few broke parts! unless u have unlimited access to a dyno or something simmilar.

if u doubt my hp claim... u figure it out. 5.6 in the 1/8th mile with me loosing .3 off the normal 60ft time due to traction.

Haven't played around at that level but you don't need a dyno to tune. Wideband O2's can be had for around $350, and EGT sensor setups for much cheaper. Both can be useful at the track also when the weather changes. I understand there is still a very small margin of error anyways

correct and i have access to a wideban but i'm no expert in tuning yet.. just a beginner.

if i had unlimited $$$ i'd just drop it off somewhere and have em to do it for me.. less headache. a guy can dream huh.
