Tranny trouble
Well, its -45c up here in Canada, and i'm having a big problem with my 91 stang. When the car sits in the cold for 5 hours, when i start it and go to drive the tranny will not even think of shifting into ANY gear. It doesn't even make the clunk or sound it should when it goes into gear. I see on the tranny when the shifter is moved that it does move the selector on the trans its self. The car has to warm up for 40 MINUTES before it will go into gear!!! After that the trans works fine, shifting, reverse...everything. I bet the fluid and filter has never been changed. Anyone with suggestions about this??

Your internal seals are probably getting old and stiff, allowing the fluid to bypass them. After they warm up, they get soft and work as they should. Depending on the milage, it may be time for an overhaul.
But again, at those temperatures, it may cause a good transmission to act up. Maybe a dip stick heater would be a wise investment if you can't keep the car inside at night.

I always add a can of Trans-Go. Any part store has it. Helps the seals and will build better pressure.
I also have a new rebuilt zero miles AOD for $500. |
