AN fittings
Can someone explain to me the numbering scheme for AN fittings. What does a 6 AN mean? 6 millimetes ID or OD or what....
Thanks |

AN (Army-Navy) number simply stands for 16 ths of an inch, so -08 = 8/16" which = 1/2"

Actually, the size corresponds with the OD of hard tubing. -8AN is 1/2 inch tubing, whether its 0.035" wall, 0.065" wall or any other wall. With flex lines, it really doesn't correspond with anything other than a nominal hose/line size. A -8 braided hose has neither a .500" ID nor a .500" OD, but its OD is in the general neighborhood of 1/2 inch.

The "dash" sizes are used in all types of hydraulic hose/fitting/tubing, like AN, JIC, SAE, pipe thread, etc.
Now, can anyone tell me what degree the taper is on the nose or seat of the fitting? I'm not sure if AN is the same as JIC which is 37 degrees or SAE which is 45 degrees. The threads are the same for both. ------------------ 91 coupe 3.73's,long tubes,2 1/2" exh, ported stock t-body,ProM-77mm cobra intake, edelbrock heads,B303,1.72 rr's 36lb inj's,tremec, & a Paxton NOVI 2000!!! 11.020 @128.95 on BFG Drag Radials (275/60/15) [This message has been edited by SisuStang (edited 01-24-2001).] |
