Default exhaust? what would be best ?

I got hooker super competition headers with 3" collectors and i'm wondering what would be best for the application. Should It be 3" all the way down or should I go 2.5 ? This same motor made its peak power at 6000 rpms and peak torque at 4100 rpm if that matters at all.

I used the Dr. Gas x-pipe that starts out 3" and goes down to 2 1/2" halfway through the x-junction, it's a pretty sweet setup (it was kind of a pain though cause I was using BBK longtubes which have 2 1/2 cone collectors, so I cut them off and ordered 3" from Dr. Gas and wedled them up). I'm assuming the Hookers have a 3bolt flange, you could either cut the Dr. gas front flanges off and replace them (or they could probably do it when you order it for pretty cheap) or cut the hookers off and install cone flanges. I probably wouldn't use 3" all the way just cause you'll lose some torque and probably won't make up for it in topend power, but I figured the 3 down to 2 1/2 should smooth the exhaust out some.

ya thats what I was thinking... Some exhaust shops have been saying I should go only 2.25 but with the motor I have I was thinking 2.5 at least for sure. And you and me have similar engines.. what kind of power are you making and whats your best time 429 ?

I;'m not sure what kind of power/ET's yet, the tracks supposed to open next sunday so I'll find out. My motors pretty much stock so far, the exhaust gave it a noticable power increase though. You'd probably see more of a difference having better heads/etc. Just make sure you ask the guy at Dr. Gas for the 3inch cone collectors to replace the ones on BBKs if you go with the BBK longtubes / 3"- 2 1/2" x-pipe or you could make it easy and just get the 2 1/2 x-pipe and not have to cut up a set of new headers.

i already have headers yo. Hooker super comps with 3" collectors. I am just wondering if I should go 2.5 or 3" I think i'll most likely do 2.5 with dynomax race bullets

Just kidding, I should have re-read your first post. I'd go with 2 1/2 exhaust unless you plan on going with a pretty big blower eventually.
