I decided to put a new 180* thremostat in and when I first put it in the car started leeking like crazy around the thermostat housing, so i put a new gasket in it the second time, started the car looked for leeks and i did not see any so I went for a test drive and then about 1-2 mins later i hear this high pichted noise so i went back home and I saw a hole in the water pump??? It looked like where a freeze plug went but then I was told that there is a hole there anyways???? Does any body know about this??? thanks

Yep your pump is toast. Be careful when removing it lots of people break the aluminum timing chain cover removing the water pump.

Yep the water pump is bad. However check the way you installed the theromstat if it is backwards it can cause this problem (ruin the pump). It just seems odd that the water pump went out at the exact time the theromstat was installed.

How hard is the water pump? I do not understand why this would happen?

ALright, I went back to take a closer look and found that the thermostat housing must be bent or somthing because it is still leeking and the noise i heard was b/c I did not have enough water in the car, But is there suppose to be a hole in the water pump, I dont think the water pump is bad??

There is suppose to be a hole but it is not suppose to leak fluid out of it, unless the main seal is bad.

A weep hole is a bearing relief hole, and is intentionally placed on water pumps as an early indicator of internal failure. Once a weep hole begins leaking, the damage inside is already done.
