Unhappy LOUD ticking comming from my motor :(

My head gasket blew, i took the job on by my self to change my head gaskets.

when putting my 1.6 svo rockers back on, i notice one of the rockers still have alot of play in it, even though the bolt is tight! i thought maybe bent pushrod, so i swiched it over w/ rocker next door. STILL alittle play, not a crazy amout though, not enough play for the push rod to come out of the rocker socket or anything but loose enough that can wiggle it alittle.

so i kept if moving w/my repair putting the motor back together, when i started the car a heard a crazy amout of rakcet going on , but i waited for the lifters to fill w/oil and it quited down alot , but theres a crazy loud TICK ! im guessing it that rocker that had play... why would that rocker have play when the rocker bolt if tightend till i can screw it down anymore ? ? ? someone told me i messed up a camlobe, but i thing my push rod would of bent before that would happen... please help

Default Bad ifter?

Could be a bad lifter? Did you switch the push rod when you did the lifter? Still could be a bent puish rod.

I'd guess you had a collapsed lifter.

Default Bad lifter?

If it was a bad lifter and you just switched it then it would have just transferred the problem to another valve. Did the play in the valve train stay at the same original valve that was causing the problem after ytou switched the components?

I heard an intense ticking coming from my engine and I assumed that the valvetrain was on it's way out. One day, while spelunking in the enginebay, I decided just for laughs to tighten the header bolts. VIOLA! No more ticking. Miniscule exhaust leaks in the header area sound like ticking. Give it a shot, cant hurt

Default Leaking header ?

A leaking header does sound just like a loose valve adjustment or a bad lifter. But didn't he say there was play in the valve train for one valve?

just to make sure, you ARE torquing the rockers down to the correct spec while it is on the basecircle of the cam? (both valves closed)

Did it possibly have shims in it before that may have fallen out before you put it back together?
