Default not a mustang but....

will be a 302 plant in my 53' ford-

After fighting for a long time to find another flathead block to rebuild. I have decided to take my defeat and go with a 302 or 351.

I figured i would ask here for good combos and links to start as I value the opinion on this board. She weighs in at about 4500
I would like to keep up with my stang or be a little faster.
I want the ricers to not know what hitem as they admire the flame exhaust after i pass them.. thanks, joe

That is a nice car. I agree that a 351W based engine would seem more suitable for that heavy of a car. For a little bit of insurance... just in case.

Just a question: did you ever talk to that shop in Dundee, Michigan about your flathead? That's all they do, and I can't remember the name of the shop for the life of me right now.

Anyway, since you're probably not looking for gas mileage in a car like this, why not go 429/460 and make it move with less effort? 4500 is heavy for a small block to push, IMHO, especially when you want it to keep pace with a car that's only 3000. They can be had for virtually the same cost and reliability. A single 4-bbl, dual-plane intake, 1500-5500 powerband cam, and a 9.0:1 C.R. should put you in the ballpark. Don't forget some decent heads!

Not sure what place you speak of in mich. But all of a sudden --past year or so,flathead stuff has been going up like it is made of gold--I have seen 4'' cranks hit 400 dollar mark on ebay before.. Every time I find a block they want like 500 dollars for something that is locked up or it is cheap and is in the Rep. of Kali.

So now it is either bite the bullet w/ down time for my car and rebuild that one--or start something else.

I thought 460 myself but am unsure about clearance isues and will not cut up the car for that--I am already hating myself for trying to put anything but a flatty in it..... Soooo... any of you guys got a cheap 8B flatty out back?
