![]() Here is the dealy-o
I can get a 1991 Mustang coupe for lerteraly pennies (4 cyn not running needs tranny). And I do not have a lot of coin to invest. However I was thinking, for a lark, dropping in a 302 and tranny. Keeping in mind I already have the 5.0 susp. laying around (it is the old one out of my GT but is in great shape) Here is my proposition. I want a cheep 302 that I could build using ford orginal parts that could be found in your local junk yard. Keeping in mind junkyards know about old boss heads (from 60-70s) and those types of performance parts from the heyday of muscle cars. What is the best parts from any year ford to use for my budget (and I mean budget) build up. any ideas? cams, heads, intake, carb.... what ever p.s. this will be a carbuerated engine as they are cheeper and eaiser then EFI

![]() Good thing there are lots of ford stuff around.
My suggestion would be to use a 86-92 used short block. That way you could get the rollercam block and factory forged pistons. However the older blocks are alot stronger, more material cast in. I know the E7TE head castings aren't the greatest, but I have read that you can get a few extra ponies by milling them and removing the emissions bump in the exhaust track. You could do the porting at home. A super cheap set of headers would be the ford factory 5.0 tubies. Again not the greatest, but better than cast logs. I believe that the 85 mustang 4 bbl intake was made from aluminum and was better than most factory intakes, at least it has the holley flange. This is where I would start on a super budget.

![]() Yeah sounds good, I was thinking the same, I wanted to maintain the roller cam, and I already have a set of E7's and stock headers. I was wondering if there were any "special" parts off any old ford trucks or large cars that may be useful??
thanks

![]() GT40 heads off of an Exploder will work well for you too. Stick with the roller motor, and stick with one from a stick car if you can find it. Automatics were rated at less HP, and Ford put different (less underdrive) pulleys on them too.
