Supercharger: Powerdyne???
Hello all,
I am going to buy a supercharger real soon for my '94 5.0L vert. the motor is stock and only plan on running 6 to 9lbs of boost. i saw a powerdyne for sale at a decent price. how well are powerdynes in comparison to vortechs? i haven't heard much good or bad about them and would like some feedback. any help is greatly appreciated |

Save your money and buy the vortech. You will be much happier in the long run. There is a reason you can find a lot of used Powerdynes cheap.

I've heard the usual stories of belts breaking on Powerdynes, but I think a lot of them are for sale, (along with a slew of A-trims) because people are always upgrading. A Powerdyne is good for only about 10 psi.

I have had a used PD for about two summers and 20,000 miles. This was with the 6lb pulley. I ran 110.6 mph at the strip showing about 4-5lbs of boost. I finally broke the internal belt about 2 wks ago. I found a supplier for the belts and bearings. I rebuilt it in about two hours. It was a piece of cake.
If you buy one, IT WILL BREAK THE BELT, just a matter of time. BUT, I can rebuild mine a lot of times for the differerence in price. If I was to go new. I would go Vortec, but with the deals on used Powerdynes you get a lot of bang for the buck. ------------------ 95 GT, GT40 Aluminum Heads, Intake u/l, 9# Powerdyne SC, 65 mm FMS TB, 70 mm FMS MAS, 30 lb injectors, E303 cam, Hooker Super Comp equal shorty headers, H pipe, Flows, Nitto DR, MSD BTM, Adjustable FP reg, 255 fuel pump, Autometer gauge pod with Electric FP guage and Boost guage, a few other odds and ends |
