347 or turbo
well i have been looking into my engine options and still cant make up my mind but i ran across the turbo option. I have seen some of you have turbo setups. If so please post what you have and your power output. I have been reading that a single turbo can put you into the 400-500hp for about $4500. Or i could build me a 347 for that same price. Whats yalls thoughts?

If it was my money man, id build the 347. you could always put a power adder on that later down the road if you really wanted to fly. but a good 347 should put you over a solid 400 to the wheels.

Turbo's are not designed to run on stock motors, so in order to run a turbo you need a good bottom end. A 347 stroker would be awsome for a turbo.. bring you into the 600Rwhp range.. Thats sound good to me. But I would go with the 347 stroker first off for sure.

I highly agree with the above. You don't want to try and throw a substantial power adder on a tired bottom end. A well built 347 will be reliable and able to handle the RPM and torque for quite a time to come, and you can always spray it or add forced induction for more power later.

I figure, if you're going to be rebuilding/changing your motor, you might as well go ahead and lay a solid foundation that you can build on (as the money comes available). for a bit more, you can go for the stroked option, but*heres the compromise* build it for a moderate compression (you can go high comp now for a big power gain, or go med/ med-low comp and have a decent power gain, but have something ready for a turbo later which will get you a big gain.
Just trying to have the cake, etc... J 347 turbo....*Homer drooling*

what are ya'lls thoughts on using my stock block and boring it out to a 347. then adding all the forged parts and etc??? Also FRPP or Dart.. whats your favorite and why?

We just built a 333 for our other car, and the bitch SCREAMS. I know this is a taboo subject, but we felt that the 347 was hanging it out there a bit to far (rod ratio), so we opted for the smaller stroke (331) but bored her out to 4.040" and ended up with 333 CID.
Canfield heads, custom Cam Motion Cam, Vic. Jr. intake and all the forged goodies. Top loader 4 spd behind it, stock posi unit and she's already gone 11.93 at 117MPH!!! Yes, all motor! For the "ass dyno" go with the stroker, for the wow factor go with the turbo. Turbomustangs.com is an awesome resource, been checking it out myself for my 2006 combo (more on that later). But for some reason, I would still shy away from the 347. For the extra 14 cubes, I just don't think it's worth it. Just my $.02!!!!
