302 or 351 ?
I have started a 2nd car to use at the track. It was a 4cyl car and I have not bought any parts for it yet. So I'm still at a point were I can make changes to the plan. My 1st plan was a 306,afr165's,spray,650carb,victor jr intake,tko,4.10's Now I'm starting to wonder if I should use a 351,afr185's etc. What do you think? The 351's are 80+lbs heavier. Are the extra cubes worth it? Or should I stuck with plan A. Thanks

351 stroker all the way. One of the reasons why it's heavier is because it's stronger.... besides it's bigger too.
oh yea, a set of Afr 205 for a mild 351 or a set of 225's for a 400+ cubic inch motor. (Even if your running pump gas shifting at 5,800 + rpms) |

I just finished my 351(358) 2 weeks ago and for the money I spent for the conversion I could have made the 302/306/331/347 flat out SCREAM. More cubes is a good thing but for the money and with the parts hanging out there, a 302 block would be cheaper and if spent right, would tear up a 302.

Not done wrong just done EFI. The lower 351 intake that matched my Trick Flow 302 upper was 300.00 by itself then the flywheel is another 250.00 to your door. and I went back with A/C so the kids wouldn't get there heads blown off when Daddy takes them for a ride (haha). I did some extra stuff but not much and I got about 2500.00 in the switch. That includes the over haul kit and the 40 over bore. In comparasion, for that same money I could have rebuilt my 306 and installed a supercharger and had just as much HP and had a couple of bucks left. In hind sight I probably would have redone the 306 but by the time I decided it was to much I was way committed.

I think I could get a 69/73 351c 2bolt. Is it worth it. I was going to go out and just buy a 306 from a place like dss and be done with it. I don't see alot of shops building the 351's and usually they are going to be out of my price range. I was going to try to spend $1500 or less on the shortblock.

It all depends on what you want. 302's are getting easier to build and make 400 horse and still drive ya to california and back but it's impressive to be packing 302's BIG BROTHER under the hood!!!

I have a very mild 351W in a 89 LX coupe that will run mid 12's all day long without spending big money. I vote for the 351W. DO NOT go the 351C route. Good motors but a pain in the butt in a fox body.

the vote is 351. I'll start looking into my options. I'll probably try to piece one together on my own to cut down on the cost. Being this is a big project, I have to spread out the coins carefully or this thing will end up collecting dust in the trailer. Thanks for the help.
