Default installing UCA/LCA

I'm getting ready to install my 8.8 rear with 4:10 gears into my '82 GT
I already have the old rearend out and I'm wondering how hard it is to remove the stock upper/lower control arms.
I don't have air tools so will I be able to get the bolts removed without any trouble or is it an air tool job?

Get some liquid lube or spray like that and soak the bolts the night before you wanna do it and that should work fine with out air tools, a breaker bar would help to.

PB Blaster, soak them down the night before like Scrapla said. Mine just popped right out with a little coaxing from a punch and hammer. Small pry bar will pop the arm itelf out of the mount.

Not a bad job at all, I was actually surprised at how easy mine were.

I dont know what yall are talking about, I just get under there with a ratchet and wrench and it takes all of maybe 30 minutes to change the upper and lower control arms.

I'd like to see you do that on a 22 year old car that's never had them touched before.

My car came from Colorado. I had to change the upper and lower control arms, the rear end and the break lines because of rust

I somehow didnt notice till after I had paid for the car.

Maybe how pissed off I was helped to get those rusty bolts loose

Well...I just tried to remove the lower control arms and I can't remove the bolts once the nuts are off. I tried wacking the end of the bolt with a hammer and it still wouldn't slide out.
Getting the nuts loose wasn't that hard....it's getting the bolts out.
Another thing.....I noticed a LOT of play in the upper control arms. Should they be like that? I can grab an end and wiggle it all around.

Sure they should be like that after a Bajillion miles. The new ones won't be like that.

Keep 2 things in mind here bro, #1 RUST like Andy said. #2 those suckers have been in there for TWENTY TWO years! Now that you got the nuts off, get out the PB Blaster, soak those puppies down. Careful not to "mushroom" the ends of the bolts beating on them with a hammer, there's a metal sleeve inside those bushings that the bolt has to slide through. Put the nut back on flush with the end of the bolt, THEN whack it with a hammer.

Patience my friend, patience. You'll get it. Spray it, smack it with a hammer, spray it have a beer. Whack it with a hammer, spray it, have a beer. They'll come out, trust me.

Autozone around here has it. Hands down the best stuff out there, don't leave home without it! The beer should be commonly available at your nearest conveineince store.

What control arms did you end up going with bro? We had talked about a few different ones, but never did hear what you bought.

I didn't buy any yet. I wanted to see if I could get the damn things off first. I was thinking about buying them from Blue Oval Industries for $150......upper and lower!

Go there, Summit, or Jegster for the price. At this point, anything better than stock, is better than stock!!
