![]() A long block is an engine that includes the bottom end plus heads. A short block is just a bottom end assembly. That engine on ebay would drop right into your '88
It would only be a matter of tearing out the old and installing that one. Hope this helps you. Is that what you meant?

![]() Traditionally, a "short block" is a complete engine, from the head gaskets down, except cam and timing assy.
A "lnog block" include cam, timing, heads, lifters, pushrods and rocker arms. Sometimes they throw in valve covers too. Throw on your intake, and away you go.
