Bypassing Smog Pump
I have a 90gt and I bypassed the smog pump about 6months ago and I want to remove the whole set up we no longer have emmsions down here in florida and i'll worry about reinstalling it if they do come back someday. What is the easiest way to plug the hole left behind on the H pipe when removing the smog pump line I heard a big enough bolt and some high temp RTV works, and if it does is there a certain bolt size?

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
id squeeze it shut and weld the end on it or hammer a big bolt in it that fits tight and if it leaks weld it or put some muffler cement around the edges

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
Here's a better idea that is reversible:
Take the air pump tube and hack off a few inches at the end. Pound one end flat and fold it over and stuff rtv inside it to seal that end then slide this onto the h-pipe's tube and clamp it as an endcap. This way, you can simply pull the cap off later if you need your air tube.

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
I used a high temp rubber hose with a bolt shoved in the other end. Two calmps and all was done.

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
Scrapla:
Are you running all the other factory accessorys? The reason I ask, is that I spent about 4 hours wed morning running back and forth to the part store trying to find a belt to bypass my smog pump (siezed on the interstate tues night en route to work, shredded the belt, resulted in a nice long walk...Less said about that night the better ) Anyway, we were using pep boys, and IIRC tried everything from the 780r6 through like the 720, and could not get anything to fit. Finally I bypassed the P/S too, and got that one right on the first try. (705r6 I think) If you know of a belt that'll work and leave the P/S active too, I'm not going to bother replacing the pump right now. *pathetic squeak* Help? (I just replaced the smog pump about 6 mos. ago, and am not looking forward to doing it again) (BTW the car has P/S, A/C, alt and smog.) Thanks J

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
I cant remember what belt size sorry its been a while now and it rubbed off the belt itself and I dont have the package, I did go through the same ordeal I must have tried 4 diff belts until I got this on and just to get it on took about 30min and it was a fight so if u got a belt that looks to small just really try and get it on because this belt looked to small and we finally got it on there, also im sorry but I lost the link there was something on the web that gave me the correct size so try a a search on www.google.com

Re: Bypassing Smog Pump
Thats cool anyway, we got it running that day (eventually), and I replaced the pump this last weekend. Pretty impressive failure, too, it completly melted that plastic cover on the front of the pump. I had to take a couple of pics for the scrapbook
