![]() Hey guys, I posted in power adders but there seems to be no traffic... so sorry for the redundancy!
I'm going to build a motor this spring (or sooner) and I was wondering what the best set up (reasonable $) will be to run high 12's. I'm buying a stock 86-93 LX, so that it is light. I was thinking about nitrous also... thanx! |

![]() Well heres my set-up and it goes mid 12's.
Canfield aluminum heads E-303 cam Ported cobra intake & 65mm throttle body stock 88 short block 1 5/8 equal length BBk headers 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 H-pipe with 3 inch mufflers 24# injectors with a 73mm pro-m mass air sensor 3.73 gears and slicks I have a 90' coupe. High 12's will be real easy with Nitrous. Spray a 100 shot and you are there. ![]()

![]() My combo puts my nearly 3700lb car into the 12.3's at 111mph.
AFR165, E-brock intake, FTI custom cam, 4.10's, 65mm t-body, 75mm MAF, 24lb injectors, 190lph pump, ASP pulleys, etc. Depending of the weight, a simple combo with a set of GT40P heads, a mild cam, and an e-brock intake should be enough too given the proper traction and gearing. Hell, keep the stock heads and cam, put on an intake, pulleys, gears, and a 100 shot and you shoudl be there without much trouble.

Ok....you said "Reasonable" and I would assume you want it as cheap as possiable with-out really cutting corners. (providing traction traction devices have been addressed& you have a sound bottom end) Option One: 125-150 shot of spray with 3.73 gears and slicks... Option Two: *GT-40P heads for your local Junk Yard (of course I would recommend having a good valve job, and new vale springs, keepers, retainers.) *Cobra intake or explorer intake...(from your local junk yard) * 65-70mm throttle body and a 73-75 mm mass air flow sensor * 24 pound injectors * E-cam w/ 1.6 RR rockers ( Both used) * 1 5/8 headers w/ 2.5 exhaust *3.73-4.10 gears *155 lpi or bigger fuel pump (if remaining EFI) *Pullies * and remove any unnecessary weight. If you wanted to go carb....an Edelbrock Air-Gap RPM intake with a 600 cfm DP or a 650cfm vacuum secondary carb and dont forget a new fuel pump, regulator, and dist. This is only one of the ways of accomplishing your goal on a very limited budget. Good Luck |

![]() A 12 sec motor is easy. At this point in your cars life, it is more your set up than your motor. What is your current set up?
1. tires 2. suspension 3. motor 4. exhast 5. weight 6. accesories, power steering and such..... 7. Tranny, clutch, convertor...... 8. Your plans. long and short term.... ![]()

![]() Suspension is the key, got to be able to grip. Budget route pullies, air cleaner, gears, short throw shifter, tires either drag radial's or slicks. If you have to go into the motor and you want to do it off the shelf GT40P heads, good set of roller rockers, GT40P hearders, off the shelf cam E303, B303, something along that line where you do not have to flycut your pistons, 65 or 70mm throttle body, and with the gears and tires already in place you are there.

![]() I went the 351W route. 1972 351W block, stock crank, rods with Dart jr heads a 290/300 .540 lift hyd cam, 9.65 compression, torker 2 intake, 650 DP holley, 1 3/4 long tube BBK's. 5 speed, 3.73 gears, drag radials went 12.73 and trying to work out traction problems in a 89 coupe. Like the other guys said, its easy to get in the 12's without a large budget.

![]() Holley sells a good head/intake/cam kit, and with gears, you'll see 12's all day.

My dad has the holley kit in his 91GT. It has been ported and he has a custom FTI cam too. he just ran a 11.84 at 117mph with a 1.72 60' this weekend in it. Before it had the custom cam and was ported he ran a 12.6 at 107mph at 3350lbs with him in it. I also bettered my times with the same combo listed above this weekend with a 12.1 at 112.5mph with a 1.66 60' in my 3670lb convertible.
