How light can you get a coupe?
I have an extra engine (308, E cam, milled stock heads) that is being rebuilt by my friend in his automotive class and I am thinking about getting a roller (no motor, trans) and gutting the thing out. I would go carb (for the first time) and remove everything possible. Any guesses on what the car would weigh? 2500 2600??
Stock body and glass The most fun I ever had was with my current Mustang when it had the stock engine. I'd like to do cheap "racecar" to beat up on instead of dogging on my 93. Thanks |

Re: How light can you get a coupe?
I would think that would be in the ballpark. I have my 88 hatch all gutted. I also am trying to be as light weight as possible. I have also been keeping track of how much things weight, and how much weight I can reduce, then how much it weighs going back on the car. But then you start to add stuff like a rollbar and subframe connectors, then you feel like your back to square one. It's just alot of work for what seems to be little gain.

Mine weighs in at 2900lbs., Manual rack and pinion, no smog, no bumper, no back seats, no a/c, fiberglass hood, and weld rims.
