Angry Pinion Question

I have a quick question for ya, I had a buddy of mine install my ring and pinion for me and when he was installing them he some how messed up the pinion threads so you can not get the nut on, is there anyway that it can be fixed or do I have a 200.00 set off worthless gears on my hands?

I would take it to a machine shop that has a good assortment of taps and dies. They may be able to clean up the threads if they are not too badly mangled. That would be my first effort, anyway.

You'll need a 3/4-20UNEF (extra fine) die to chase the threads. I've had this happen before myself. The die is not easy to find, but if you have a machine supply warehouse nearby, they should have or be able to get it for you.
