Default factory magnetic tach

My 92 lx 2.3 has a magnetic tach which reads almost double the correct reading when I hooked up the 302, I checked the wiring diagram to see if there was some type of relay or module that controlled the reading for a 4 or 8 cylinder, the wiring diagram for the V 8 shows a resistor wire of 22k in the diagram going to the tach , for the 2.3 they do not show a resistor wire, is this what I need to have the factory tach to work correctly the reason I ask is I was going to buy a replacement cluster from a 5.0 but now I wonder if the replacement cluster would work correctly
