Cam install question
Ok guys, i have asked a couple questions before, but now i am getting down to the install. I am putting in an E303 cam into my stock 5.0 lincoln Motor. If i keep it Speed Density what all do i have to do? Do i need to do new valve springs? I have a Mustang ECM and Stock Mustang Heads, a stock upper and lower GT intake and a 70mm throttle body and spacer.. Is there anything that i need to have done in order to have this thing run correctly?
Thanks for the help, Aaron |

Re: Cam install question
How many miles on the motor? It might be a good idea to change them just so you don't float the valves.

Re: Cam install question
I also would like anybodies opinion on whether i should keep Speed Density or go to MAF. i have read many of the search results here and there are strong opinions both ways. I would love to hear your thoughts. Also, what about porting and polishing intake and heads? is it needed , will it improve much?
Thanks for your help Aaron |

Re: Cam install question
Speed density will easily do the job. Get an adjustable Fuel pressure regulator so you can manually add or remove fuel from the mixture and your good to go.
I was running speed density with big aluminum heads and a Lunati cam that was way more radical than the E-cam.

Re: Cam install question
As for porting and polishing, porting will be a good idea. If nothing else, removing the exhaust bumps will help a good deal. I would replace the springs. Not sure on which ones to tell you to use with that cam, but if the heads had 90,000 on them the stockers are getting up there.

Re: Cam install question
Stick with speed density unless you plan on running some boost, which will then add another factor into the tuning equation. Speed density has produced some pretty mean cars in the mustang world.

Re: Cam install question
Wait a minute...I thought speed density computers did not like changes done to the engine???
Don't you have to switch to MAF?

This is what i had been told also. I have done quite a bit of research and with the help of the great people on this board, i have come to find out that keeping with Speed Density is just fine and many upgrades can be done with good results. |

Hell a friend of mine ran a mid 11 with a 347 stroker with ported edelbrock victor junior heads a F-303 cam and a Trick flow R intake on speed density. He changeed to a carb shortly after but it was cool to see.

Re: Cam install question
I would do:
New timing chain New valve springs Look into roller 1.6 rockers And put a degree wheel on it and dial in the cam. Porting the exhaust ports is always a good idea.
