351W pics and Questions. DUW
Let me first state - Yes I will be picking up a haynes manual today.. But the messageboards have been very helpful in the past, so I figured I'd post my troubles... Questions after pics.
Pic#1 - What is this wire and should this be cut as it is? Pic#2 - Pic of front spring... Why are those 2 seperators in the spring? Pic#3 - Shouldnt this be plugged? or does something go there? Pic#4 - What is this called? It needs to be replaced. Pic#5 - This was a hose that I found just sitting on top of the engine. Any guesses to where or what this is too? Thanks for any help in my large learning curve. |

1: Looks like a ground for something maybe choke?, beyond that?
2: More than likely to keep the front from bottoming. How are the shocks? 3:There should either be a breather or your oil cap. 4:EGR valve. Puts bad gasses from crankcase back into the engine to be burned. 5: No fricking clue, maybe its the pic, but whats it hooked to? Hope it helps J

3 and 5 should have gone together. That hose probably went to the breather cap as a source of vacuum for operating accessories.

Re: 351W pics and Questions. DUW
1. Ground wire. More then likely for the electric choke. If it isn't attached to anything and the choke is working [Grounded] take it off.
2. Helpers for the front springs. Trying to give the front springs some more life. The car must be sagging or bottoming out. Buy new CORRECT springs. They are cheap and with the correct tools, aren't hard to replace. 3. Should probably be a breather or PCV valve. I'd put the PCV valve there and a breather cap on the other valve cover. 4. Oil breather cap, with PCV on top of it. As said before, I'd move the PCV to the other valve cover and put a straight breather cap here. P.S. No it isn't an EGR valve 5. Factory breather hose to go to air cleaner. Hope this helps. 5.

#4 isn't an EGR valve, it's a PCV valve.
#3 and #5 could have gone together as the "old" PCV valve, then someone may have changed it over to the other valve cover. Looking more closely at #5, it LOOKS like what would have gone to the factory air cleaner. Slips in the body, has a clip on the inside of the air cleaner, part of the PCV system.

lol, did anyone else notice something a little out of place in picture #1?
A sparkplug and a hose clamp, what a clever way to block off a coolant line, haha

I thought that plug was a little off too... coolant line? SHould that be hooked up to something? I did notice today while looking a little deeper into the engine, that there is a lot of little valves and such that have nothing hooked up to it.. Engine runs smooth too.. Could this be for all the extra emmissions crap that is not on this engine? I ordered a book on this particual engine today - hope it gets here quick.
