Default Is this true?

I read online that you're supposed to advance your timing until you reach max. vacuum on the gauge and then back the timing down until the vacuum is 1" less
Is this true? I'm trying to get the setup I have dialed in correctly to get a better baseline and then start swapping the parts it needs to hit the 12's

I have never heard of that method of setting your timing. I have heard of using a vaccum guage to set up the carb, but not timing.

Peckerwood has always been a big advocate of that. I personally have never used it. I have always been fortunate enough to have access to an engine or chassis dyno to figure out what works.

that setup you have should be able to hit 12's even with your timing way out of whack

regardless, set the base at about 10-12deg btdc as a baseline and go up from there

well, I found a few things out about my setup that I didn't know.
First, the performer intakes are not much, if any, better than stock.
Second, Mallory dizzys have slow advance rates set at the factory.
With that said, I'm swapping to a stealth intake with a 750 holley and recurve my dizzy for quicker advance curve.
Then..I should be in the 12's....or so I'm being told.

Stay tuned because if not, you might see a black, 1982 GT with a worked 351w for sale in the classifieds!!(with a fist hole through the windshield)

I'd go with a Vic Jr intake over a Stealth. Just my opinion

My dad has a stealth on his 383 stroker. Seems to work really well for him.

I'd much rather tune the torque/power curve on a dyno also.

I drive this on the street so the stealth makes it more streetable than a victor. If this was a drag car only, then I would go with the victor.
