Default what's the difference........

What's the difference between a torque converter made for a case filled tranny and one made for a pan filled tranny? I know there are different bolt patterns but will it hurt to use a converter that's made for a pan filled tranny in a case filled tranny if the bolt patteren is the same?
I'm asking because I saw another converter for sale but it's a for a pan filled c-4 and mine is case filled but the bolt patteren is the same.
