Default Torque Box's suck..

a buddy of mine picked up an 89lX a while back. has a gear, nittos, the usual bolt ons and an e-cam. well not gona go into to much but his torque boxes are all torn up. we took the back seat off the check out where the uppers mount adn its all cracked.
i know wild rides sells the battle boxes, i just ordered the kit for my 85, but is their a way to prevent that area behind the seat where the uppers mount from cracking? weld welding in somekind of reinforcement help it at all?
