Default how to tell if quadrant is worn?

a friend emailed me this and told me to check this. what am i looking for exactly when i am on ym back looking under the dash? my clutch is catching up higher than normal and it smelt like clutch at the track last time i went . im wondering if i need the linkage kit as well. how do i tell? thanks

"You can as long as the quadrant isn't worn out...and it may be we'll have to shine a light under the dash and look."

how good is the mcleod 10 spline disc. a buddy of mine has one he will give to me for 70 bux less than 800 miles on it!

If you have the stock quadrant, it will fail soon enough. I ended up doing damage to my nice expensive freshly rebuilt trans due that cheap piece of Nylon.

I can strongly recomend the UPR triple hook quadrant and extreme double lock firewall adjuster. The parts are so cheap, and it is really great to have the clutch finally disengage properly.

not sure how old the clutch is. let a friend drive it twice at the track and he must have rode the clutch too much. smelt like clutch after he drove as well as is catching up higher than beofre. weird thing is is that it isnt slipping. when i go to 4th going slow and punch it, there is no slipping at all! why would i smell cluthc bad and have it catch up higher and the clutch be still good? any ideas? i would say the clutch has a minimum of 15000 miles on it, but not sure. if my buddy is going to sell me that mcleod, what other things do i need to buy for it? thanks,

jim
my buddy said the rest of my parts hosuld be under 100 bucks.

It's possible for the clutch to be slipping at a higher rpm and you just don't notice it. With your engagement moving up higher, it does seem that your clutch is wearing. I once burned out a king cobra clutch in about 16k miles because I didn't adjust my clutch cable properly. If the person who installed the clutch messed up, it too could be on its way out.

If you want a clutch that you can depend on, I'd recommend going with a Centerforce Dual Friction. Mine is still going strong after 70k miles with an engine that puts down nearly 400 ft-lbs to the rear wheels. You will also want to install an adjustable clutch cable and quadrant at the same time. You really don't want to depend on that nylon POS. A clutch isn't something you should be looking to save some money on. Pay a little more and do it right and you'll save a lot of money in the long run.

I hear it's nearly impossable to change quadrant and I have a bad shoulder so no way I could work up in there.
Wonder what a shop would charce? (if I could find one that could)

You will need a pressure plate which will cost you $173 ( Summit Racing). You will need to machine the flywheel. It's a good time to replace the pilot bearing, throwout bearing and rear main seal.
