gotta question for a future project...
right now i am lookin for a four cyl fox body stang, so i can save money on insurance and drop a v8 in there, i'm wantin a 302 or a 351W in there, so here's the question...if i were to go with the 351W, would i have to do anything really special to make it fit in the engine bay?

Re: gotta question for a future project...
You will need special headers and your stock hood will have to go most likely. Other than that is is pretty straight forward.

Re: gotta question for a future project...
One problem you may run into. If you put a V-8 in a 4 cyl mustang. Then have an accident and your insurance company has your car as a 4 cyl. Then when they investigate the accident and appraise the damage, they can denie coverage because of fraud.
Just a thought..... 5.0 fits the best, but most everything has to be changed over to a V-8 car. Brakes, suspension, EEC harness, etc

Re: gotta question for a future project...
ok, another question to go along with the first one...would i have to do any special welding or use different motor mounts?

Re: gotta question for a future project...
Either motor, you can use stock fox mustang v8 motor mounts. And no welding is required to make the swap. If you use the 351, get convertible mounts. They let the motor sit a little lower in the chassis.

Re: gotta question for a future project...
I think that you will need front coil springs also, They are cheap and easy to find.

Re: gotta question for a future project...
If you go carbureted, it will fit. You just have to be careful when selecting your air cleaner. I have a 351, carbed, and solid motor mounts. No hood clearance issues. I didn't buy new coil springs either. I have been driving it like this for a couple of years now with no issues. Although, I do plan on getting some new suspension pieces soon.
BTW, there was a guy on here who had posted up how to get a 351 FI under the stock hood. I don't remember the screen name. But I remember he used drop solid motor mounts and a different oil pan (like a canton or moroso). I also think he had used an aftermarket k member.

Re: gotta question for a future project...
Just another thought for you. In the end the money your going to spend to do this project you will be lucky if you have any money left over for insurance. I started with a 4cyl went with a 302 and have been working on it since last summer. So far in 12 grand with it. Still not done. And I have done everything myself. So think it over before going into a project like this. Just hardware alone will add up to a small fortune. I'm not saying that it will cost this much, but you get stuck with "as long as I'm doing this, I should do that" type of thing. good luck.....
