Default Oil Pressure issues on new motor...

The gauge fluctuates from 0-30psi erratically. I am breaking in my new 331 and I know it is full of oil and runs very strong.
I think it is the old pressure sender that is the problem, the wire came into contact with the header off of number 5.
Does anyone have/know/recommend a mechanical pressure sender that I can install directly into the cockpit?
I need precise oil pressure measurements as I plan on installing a vortech as soon as break in is complete.
Thanks in advance...

When you put a "mechanical" gauge in there are two types.
1. Copper/plastic line going directly to gauge
2. Same as above

r and r'd the sender and viola! even with the "crappy" gauge, it is reading 60+ psi under hard acceleration and 30 psi at idle.
don't think it's so bad, of course it is brand new. we'll see in a few months I guess.

I put a mechanical autometer guage in a cage on the dash. just ran braided line from the end of the extender tube on the old factory location. Seems to work perfect.

ALL of my gauges are mechanical. Just don't trust the electrical sender units/gauges to monitor my VITAL engine stats. Oil pressure drops, and in the back of your mind you think "Did I lose oil? Or is it a wire, or sender unit?" NOPE. Just not worth it. I have waaaaay too much B/S/T in my engine to be worrying about that kinda crap. Go mechanical, and be done with it.

Yeah, I wanted to keep a clean cockpit and not have gauges here and there. But I guess it's time to look at gauge pods. I agree, I have too much invested to guess at stock gauge accuracy.

Look into that 2 gage center vent cage. Found mine at summit. it is made by autometer. Seems to good quality and I think they give a nice look..

will do, it doesn't completely close off the vent does it? I like the sound of something flush.

My buddy has the automeeter mechanicals in his 90 with a 408. It is the dual cage that goes in the vents, and it does not totally block the vent. Very nice, if I do a fox body, I will be using that set-up.
