The reason why you had too much pressure at the carb. was because you need a fuel pressure regulator if you're going to use the pump in the tank.
That electric pump puts out 38lbs of pressure and a carb. can only use about 7lbs. before needing a regulator.
Install a regulator and you'll be fine.
