Default Low Amps!!!!

Well, i barely put a new battery on my car about 2 months ago. my car has really, really bad amps on the guage when i turn the lights on in the night. The more things i turn on (heater, high beams, blinkers)the lower the needle will drop. last time i checked the alternator was good. ive thought about changing the alternator to another one that makes more power. i also have a 300 watt amp powering a 12'' woofer. how many amps should i buy the new alternator? Could this be my problem??

IF you still have the stock alternator, even if it is good, with a good size amp and other electrical things, you are gonna stress that system pretty hard.

I would upgrade.

I am not sure what they offer for late model cars any more. I am sure someone will chime in here on it.

The stock 5.0 alternator is not up the job you are asking it to do. After all, it is only a 75 amp unit. Your best bet is to put on a 130amp unit aka the 3g alternator. Here are some links to do the swap.

You can do a search on this board right here for more information. This has come up a bunch of times.

I picked up a PaPerformance 130amp alternator. One of the best things I ever bought. I too have an amp for my stereo as well. I also picked up their alternator to starter relay wre (w/ fuse), new battery cables, and a new starter cable.

ditto on the PA-Performance 3G alts! great product and you can't beat the lifetime warranty. Once we installed even with underdrive pullies, our power problems were over.
