leaky tailshaft seal caused by synthetic ATF?
I had a clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, rear main seal, steeda tri-ax shifter, steeda cluth cable/quadrant/firewall adjuster all installed on 11/03. I also had the flyshweel resurfaced and the stock (13 year old) tranny fluid replaced with Redline Synthetic ATF. 2 months later on 1/04 I had to replace a leaky tailshaft seal and add another quart of ATF. Now about 18k miles later the tailshaft seal is leaking again. Is this a common problem as the original one lasted over 100k miles.
I feel like the Redline Synthetic ATF is the cause of my problem. I know alot of guys run into problems when they switch an old engine over from conventional oil to synthetics and get many new leaks. I feel the change over to snythetic was the cause of the tailshaft seal leaking the first time, do you think it is the cause of it leaking again? Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the stock fluid for a 1990 world class t-5 is Dextron II ATF. Am I using the right synthetic by using Redline Synthetic ATF? Anyone else run into any problems using Synthetic ATF in an older tranny like mine?

Re: leaky tailshaft seal caused by synthetic ATF?
it's not the atf doing it....probably have a worn bushing in the tailshaft that is causing the leak....also check the yoke going into the tailshaft, if the bushing was bad...it most assuredly grooved.

nitrous_bob hit it right on the nose. Bushing is bad, yoke maybe too.
