Default tranny swap

I have a 95GT with a blown 347 and a T5. I am fixing to upgrade to either a TKO600 or a T56. Which is better and what all do I need to change to them. Right now the car has 498hp and 492tq at the wheels amd 3.73 gears. Thanks for any help

I'd go with the TKO600. I think you need it all either way you go. Tranny, bellhousing, clutch and shifter.

well do you want a 5spd or a 6spd? They'll both hold up to more power than you've got. You'll need a different bellhousing, driveshaft yoke, & clutch. The new TKO600 comes with a Hurst designed shifter, but I don't think the T56 comes with a good one.

5spd or 6spd not to important I just want something that will hold up. What I have been reading is that a T56 is rated at 440lbs tq. I dont know the difference in the regular T56 and the viper T56. Also I have read some posts that said a tremec would bolt up to a stock bellhousing. Do you know if they are talking about older tremecs or are there some that will bolt up and others that wont.

Who said a tremec will bolt up to a stock bellhousing? If they're talking about a stock toploader bellhousing, then yes, but not a T-5. If you have the need for a TKO, then you need to get a safety bellhousing. Or you can learn that lesson when your flywheel cuts your feet off.

Since the 5 or 6spd doesn't matter to you, then go with the TKO600, it is lighter, cheaper, and will "soak up" less power than the T-56 will.

I actually got that info from this forum. It was asked by Skiwesser if it would fit a stock bellhousing and the reply was from The Jester that said it would fit. He very well could have been refering to the older bellhousing. This was posted on 11-22-05. Thanks for all of your help.

A Tremec WILL bolt up to a factory 5.0 bellhousing. But like mentioned before, when you take your right foot OFF at the ankle, that Lakewood Scatter shield will seem like a good idea. Don't play "I shoulda" with that kinda stuff man. AIN'T WORTH IT!!!

Plan on playing games with clutches, cuz the input splines on a TKO are different, but so are they for the T56, as well as the output shafts, so plan on a driveshaft yolk as well.

I'd go TKO-600 from my pal Walt (1-800-771-6843) at Pro Motion Performance (shameless plug, but I'm SOLD on him).

If it has a clutch, WALT will tell you what you need to do. Plain and simple.

Only difference between a T56 and a "viper" T56, is ratio's. Nothing about strength.

T56=6 speed
TKO=5 speed

It's as simple as that.

I put a T-56 in my mustang and I love it! I have a 306 with a supercharger and it takes in just fine. I really really like and would recommend it. I got the swap kit from D&D performance and i also ordered a kevlar clutch and their shifter.
