gt-40 p is a head, there gt-40 irons, alumiums, gt-40 x, and probably more

the cobra and explorer are all gt-40 style intakes, except the non tubular(cobra and explorer) uppers can be ported, i think the wall thickness of the actual gt-40 upper is too thin to port

so the non tubular ones are the better ones or no? is the gt-40 intake a substantial upgrade from stock? and what size throttle body works well ? i am thinking about 65-70mm.
also, can i use the gt-40 with speed density? will i need to use larger injectors?

thanks

i went with a cobra just because of price. i believe the tubular gt-40 flow slightly better in stock forum, but not eanough in my case to spend the extra couple hundred. id go 70mm t-body(and it will work with speed density) and stick with the stock injectors for now, maybe 24lbers when you get some heads(as well as 190lph fuel pump). you should notice some power from it, but it will really come alive with a set of heads

ok cool!! thanks for the help/
one more question. do all explorers with 5.0's have the gt-40 intake or do i need to watch out what i buy? how do i tell if it is truly a gt-40 by looking at it?

it should look like the motorsport cobra intake, but i believe all v8 explorers have them.(i think 97up had them, but not 100% sure, could probably find it by searching)

there are better intakes on the market, but unless youve got heads, they will not be the bottleneck in the system. if you had some afr's the holley might be a better intake(i think its supposed to be one of the best right now???) but it costs considerably more

Actually my engine is at the race shop right now having head work done, along with a cam and a good balancing.
i have been lurking around ebay, and i see a lot of new (replica) cobra intakes. do those flow better than a regular gt-40?
sorry for all the questions, i just want to make sure i am making an informed decision the first time.

no, the cobra doesnt, its very close though. if you are only working with the stock heads, the cobra intake should be more than eanough

Ok as i have been researching around. i found that 97 and up did not have external egr where as the 96 and down does and the 96 and down has the ACT snensor hole in the #5 runner. what does all this mean to me?? can i just plug the ACT thing and the only thing i have is an EGR spacer, is that what they are talking about?

96-early 97 intakes have the INTERNAL EGR passages like the stock intake, so it can be bolted on with an EGR spacer and used like the stock intake - BUT - the ACT hole is not drilled/tapped which can be done with a 9/16" drill and a 3/8" NPT tap. Or you can move the ACT to the air tube.

The GT40/Cobra/Explorer all flow within a couple of cfm of each other and all make the same average power over the rpm range.
