Default Which CAM is good for me?

Hi everybody. My baby is a 1986 GT 5.0 I'm currently sitting at 265 wrhp.

I wanna upgrade my cam, but I don't be to go CAMzilla or real harsh of a cam. Do anybody got any ideas for me or is it even worth upgrading my cam. What are the avdvantages going with a different cam other than stock cam? Help me out stangers.

If you could post the details about your car and all of its mods, they will be able to help you out a lot more.

OK, gotcha.

MAC CAI,
MAC shorty headers
BBK 65mm throttle body
BBK underdrive pullies

3.73 gears
Flowmaster 2 chamber 2 1/2 exahust system
BBK offroad H-pipes
subframer connectors

Haven't done too many mods as of yet; as you can see.

The easiest and best (IMHO) way for good info and expert advice for a cam is to call the Comp Cams or Crane help line and give them all your info. They will then be able to pin point the exact cam that best suits your need. You can then order it form Summit or Jegs with the confidence that you're getting the right one for your application and at a good price.

The "best" performing cam for you right now is the stock cam. Your intake and heads both need work before you start thinking about doing cam upgrades.

Yep, what unit said.
also camzilla would require notched pistons for clearance, a cam that big would slow you down with those heads.
there is a guy on stangnet running 12.50's with a stock cam, he has the cam retarded 4 degrees, and tuned it well,
i got a cam mainly cuz i like the lopey sound, but ported my heads and upgraded my valvesprings to work with it. If you gotta have a cam, i recomend the e-cam since it is smog legal, and doesnt hurt driveability too much.

Yep,

You can put 280 to the wheels and run 12's with the stock cam.

in a recent modified mustangs magazine they dyno tested a 86 w/ very similar mods w/mass air conversion and it laid down 200 rwhp.as far as cams go start w/ a 87-92 ho short block and and do basic upgrades and next winter ( if your on a budget like myself ) put it in.86's have poor heads, no valve releifs in the pistons and a torque cam. just my opinion.

200rwhp is a far cry from his claimed 265rwhp. How was this figure arrived at.....chassis dyno, engine dyno program. I just can't see it happening with those crappy '86 heads..I can't
At least get a set of E7's on there

Just for the record, the 1985 4bbl GT's, the 1986 SEFI GT's and the 1987-1988 non MAF 5.0s have the same HO roller camshaft.
