t-5 tranny question
i got a t-5 tranny with about 100,000 miles on it, it started to grind when i shift from 1st into 2nd then 3rd into 4th it will grind and i can feel it in the shifter, its only when i shift fast if i ease in into to 2nd or 4th it fine and no other noises or problems except this, you guy's have any ideas, could it be the sync's? thanks

Re: t-5 tranny question
Does it ever kick out of gear? If not, then the gears themselves are still intact, but the syncs are gone, trust me, (coming from someone on their 3rd rebuilt t-5),
If your gonna put 70$ synchros in, go ahead and rebuild the whole thing, with that kind of mileage, it's just a matter of time, could happen when you least expect it, like driving from the grocery store like me It was hard driving home with only 4th gear! edit: clutch cable can cause problems as well, but 100k miles t-5, probaly needs rebuild.

Re: t-5 tranny question
no it never kicks out of gear on me, just the grinding, and i have a brand new bbk adjustable clutch cable on the car cause when it started to grind i thought maybe my cable was stretched but know luck there, do you need to split the tranny open when you get your syncs done if thats the case then i will take your advice and get it rebuilt, whats it cost to get it rebuilt?
thanks, coupe50h |

Re: t-5 tranny question
I'm with Coupe. Synchros are all smeared over. Hell, we used to do that to those T5's in a matter of weeks. LOL
Save yourself a headache, have a tranny shop with a good reputation give her the once over, and you'll be good to go.
