Default Steering Rack rubber bellows...

I just purchase some moog replacement rubber boots (bellows) for my steering rack and they are vented. I dont know that my stockers had a vent? Is there any certain trick to pointing the vent?

DO i want to lube it up in there with some grease? If so how much? I assume you need to lube the inner tierod....

I don't think the stockers have any vents, make sure they gave you the right ones, ask if they are OEM...

OOOHHHHH, ok, yeah some of the stangs had a small tube that fed the fluid into the boot or maybe it was for a vent, but I remember now, was there not a small tube on there that you took out? Kind of like this but not really...http://www.engineceramics.com/hardpa...w_o_column.jpg

you know...im going to have to climb under it again and check. Im pretty sure there isnt anything there but when i get a chance ill have a look and see what is going on.

i dont understand what that tube would feed......the only thing in there should be grease id imagine.

I believe that is listed as a vent on the bellows but vent for what?

weird...

ill have a look and try to report back

The vent is there to allow air to move from side to side while turning to prevent the bellows from blowing out and to reduce steering effort. If you dont have a vented boot on your car, I dont see why you couldnt use the new boot. You might have to plug it, might end up with a whistle while your turn.

I actually got under there and can see it now.
THe moog boots i ordered only came with zip ties to hold it on. Strange.....

Im thinking of runing some full fledged hose clamps. That should do it up right.
