Default Help with firewall adjuster

I finally got the Quadrant changed out, I got the summit kit with double hook Quad., f.w adjuster, cable that is adjustable at the tranny as well.
Well the firewall adjuster didn't look right, the flange that bolts to the firewall was between the two lock rings, the only way I see it could fit was to run the rings up the threads together (on the end you insert the cable, feed it through and bolt it to the firewall, is that right or even make sense?
I have it all the way in up top, can't see any threads, full loose I'm guessing? And it's as loose as it can get at the tranny, I have the cable hooked to the top latch on Quad., wouldn't reach the lower one and the cable is pretty tight very little play in cable at trans.
And the clutch engages within 1" to 1 1/2" of downward pedal travel.
From a stop it doesn't engage until the pedal is almost at the top of it's travel and I'm use to it engaging about 2" from the floor.
Will the cable stretch and allow me to set it up the way I want it or have I got that firewall adjuster in wrong??

What do you guys think?
Am I stuck until the cable stretches, I hate it engaging so high.
Like I said it's tight now,not too tight I don't think, but when it does stretch I suppose the first lock ring must be able to spin freely around cable where I trimed off the tabs to fit it through the adjuster correct?
I didn't check that it would before I installed it but it slid right in so I think I'm ok, right now the cable is too tight to tell without loosening it on the tranny end so I'll wait but want to be sure I'm understanding how it works properly.
Thanks
Wes

Did you put a lock ring inside the car? That is wrong. It all goes outside, screw it all the way down. The secound ring is to lock it in place. That should give you some slack. I have had to pry the fork foward to hook the cable a few times.

It is installed as you described,it is run all the way in away from firewall (full loose?), so Q is the plastic piece of cable (that fits into the adjuster) supposed to spin freely inside the first lock ring, right now it tries to turn the whole cable but it's so tight I think full loose is all I can get away with right now.
But when it stretches the only way I see it could work is to spin inside the ring as to allow it pull on the cable, then lock it down with 2nd lock ring?
Am I getting close to comprehending this thing
