Default Good 10 second clutch.

My 1990 coupe is a track only car and "should" run mid 11's on motor and high tens on a little nitrous. I launch off the limiter and drive it like I stole it.

Anyone have any suggestions? I have done some research and am leaning towards the Spec stage 3 clutch.

If you have the money then go for the Spec 3, but my Centerforce DF has made a 10 sec pass on the button with no problems, I launch at 6000 and also have an aluminum flywheel. Good luck.

Yeah I am also going with an aluminum flywheel. I even bought ARP flywheel and presure plate bolts.

The Spec stage 3 seems like the way to go.

Thanks,

A SPEC stage 3 is NOT necessary to run 10's. I have an AFM stage 1 in mine, which looks very similar to the disc used in the SPEC I kit. The pressure plate is different though. I've heard numerous people say the SPEC PPs are too heavy and can hurt the transmission pretty quick.
FYI, I ran my car probably 60 passes last year, all with at least 6000 launch RPM and mid 1.4 60fts. I pulled the clutch out over the winter expecting to change it, but it looked brand new so I slapped it back in and have put another 10-15 on it this year so far.

I'd suggest looking into AFM, Pro-motion, centerforce, or mcleod, but stay away from the SPEC III

Thats good to know. My philosophy has always been to go easy on the cam and overkill the clutch but I dont want a clutch that un-necessarily tears up parts.

I will look into the AFM clutch.

Thanks,

FWIW I got a spec stage one in my car and we had to grind quite a bit in the bellhousing (stock) to get the pressure plate to clear, the motor wouldn't spin by hand and after a little hassle and looking we took off the B.H. and saw the blue paint (could have been a lot worse) had to grind and fit grind and fit.

that's odd. I ran a stage 1 in my car years ago with the stock bell and everything cleared fine. What flywheel do you have, and are you using the factory block plate?

Stock FW and plate.
The clutch is great, so it wasn't that hard if there are clearance issues. But I thought perhaps somone else had same trouble??
mabye we had the BH upside down haha

You never ran one, no one on here said any bad about it. The
stage 3 + came highly recomended for my new application.

no, but I'm heavily involved with other high horsepower stick-cars. When a transmission company tells you not to run a certain clutch because it will likely break the trans, I tend to listen to them.

11.06 No funny stuff, all engine! Launched at 6500 side stepping the clutch, shifting at 8,800 after driving it to the track at 3,500. And yeah, I drove it home too. That was with a TKO-II, and a RAM long style clutch. Walt has me hooked up with a ceramic disc and a custom pressure plate that was cheaper than the RAM setup. I really can't bitch about the RAM, it's done me well. VERY well.

Call Walt at Pro-Motion in FLA. Send me a PM, I'll give you his number.

Man I was a little scared of shifting at 6800 rpm.
