Default Rack & pinion replacement

I really need some suggestions - I have a 92 GT convertible - I am the original owner - last week I replaced the rack with an A1 Cardone rebuild. The one that came off was a Ford reman. The shop assured me my old rack was 2 1/2 turns lock to lock, as was the Cardone. The steering on my car has ALWAYS been tight, I never had to turn the wheel much for the car to steer and never really able to turn the wheel easily. For the past week I feel like I am driving someone else's car. As if I have gone from drving my Mustang to my grandmother's Cadillac. I have tried to research this as much as I can. Everyone thinks I am crazy that there could be such a drastic difference. I was told by Cardone that it is just the mileage on my car. Another guy at the tire shop suggested I was imaginging this? I can't help but wonder if they installed the wrong rack??? Has anyone had any similar experience with the rack replacement?? I could really use the help!!

2 technicians have now told me the steering does not feel right. The shop wants to send the rack that came off the car to Cardone and have them re-built that one. But if the one that is one there right now is no good what assurance do I have that Cardone won't re-build mine the same way? Anyone have experience with Cardone re-builds????? Need help ASAP - the steering is getting worse by the day!!

IMO, sell it and go with a quality one from Flaming River. I have the quick ratio one and love it, no problems. Good luck.

Wink Re: Rack & pinion replacement

thanks for the info! I was able to retreive my r/p and found a great rebuilder California Axel - they did a great job - I was right all along my r/p is 2-1/4 turns lock to lock and the one Anderson's Frame in Westminster tried to convince me was the correct part for my car was 2-1/2 lock to lock! Now my car handles the way is was supposed to!!! Maybe one of these days I will now be able to get it to the paint shop! Thank you for the help!!
