well ofcourse your gonna need gears, a 14.6 isnt really bad with 3.08 gears, if you got some drag radials and gears you could probably hit a 14.0x maybe break into 13's
if you are on a budget and can do the work yourself, definately port the hell out of your heads some people have hit 12's with a completely stock motor, but this is with a light car and a very good suspension get some gears, traction and a 125shot and you'll hit 12s easy, but if your like me then you'll want all the power all the time port your heads really well, find a cheap intake on e-bay and get a good cam and you'll be one the brink of 12s, drive the $hit out of it and you'll get it good luck ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, BBK headers, off-road H-pipe, flowmasters, subframes, 65mm TB, March ram air ,MSD coil, U/L control arms, 155lph f/p, Crane Adj.FPR, Nitto drag radials, best 1/4--> 13.76@101.4 on a 2.17 60ft |

yah you could do that if you can find some heads off a 87-up 5.0, dont pay a whole lot for them just incase they are damaged, you'll want to take them to a machine/cylinder head shop to have them flattened and have the valve guides checked, 3 angle valve job and new valve springs, the machine shop work should be around $150-200 and new springs are well under $100
now that i add it up, if your gonna do it that way then you should just get some GT40P heads, you can get them bare (no valves or springs) for $99 each, not sure what good new valves run maybe another 150-200 in valves and springs, then you could port them out a little too and have a pretty damn nice set of heads there is another thing you can get from a junk yard if you can find it, an explorer intake, the lower is almost exactly the same as a GT40 lower (except for a sensor that you have to drill and tap a hole for) and the upper flows just a little bit less than a cobra, i found mine for $150 from a guy on mustangworks you could also find both the heads and explorer intake on Ebay, you can find pretty much anything you need on there ------------------ 88 Notch, B&M Ripper, 3.73's, Ported E7's, Explorer int. w/ ported lower, pulleys, 1.7RR's, BBK headers, off-road H-pipe, flowmasters, subframes, 65mm TB, March ram air ,MSD coil, U/L control arms, 155lph f/p, Crane Adj.FPR, Nitto drag radials, best 1/4--> 13.76@101.4 on a 2.17 60ft |

dont forget that when you go with gt40p heads you need different headers. I am pretty sure on this. I got a whole motor in my garage out of my 90 gt if you are interested in any of the parts.

I've heard 351 Windsor heads are the next best thing to aluminum ones. (Thats what a few engine builders have told me) But the cheapest way to go 12's is Nitrous.

The cheapest way is nitrous and slicks. But if you want heads, etc. The cheapest thing is to find a set of GT-40's (not the P's), or a set of C9 or D0 casting 351W heads. Now if emissions are a concern the D3 or 4 heads are the same as the earlier ones, with air passages in them.
Porting the stock heads will help, but you might as well step up now and when you get your turbo kit you'll be that much better in the long run. Either way you do it, you'll have lots of fun with a turbo in the end! |

nitrous, gears, and slicks. The easiest recipe to a 12 second timeslip.

well, thers an all truck autowrecker next door from my work, so what kinda 351 heads should i look for?(what would they likely be on? what year vehicle?) what year explorer was the explorer 5.0 intake on that i want to look for?
i may get some 26x8" mt et streets for next year's racing, and possibly some 373/4.10 gears. i dont like the nitrous idea, because i dont want to be filling the blue bottle every day and i would like the power on hand at all time. thanks |

SLICKS would help that alot. When my 5.0 was stock with some slicks I was pulling like 1.8's.
