Alternator From Hell
I replaced my alternator (89'G.T) last week. Ran fine for a few days. Now my AMP light goes on and my gauge shows that my new battery is draining. Its also making a combination grinding and whistling noise. Did I just get a bad alternator. The install wasn't brain surgey. I can't think of anything I could have done wrong. Thanks.

I bet it is a defective alternator.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping. Can't think of what else it could be.

I used to work at Napa in high school, and we had a lot of alternators come back bad.

Bad alternator's out of the box especially "rebuilt" ones, are not uncommon I bet I have had at least a dozen bad ones over the years - try another one and you will probably be fine

Did you try kicking it?...that usually works for me
No, but seriously, if its making funny noises it must just be bad. I just replaced the stock one in my 92GT for a 130AMP from a 94 I found on ebay and since then my amps are fine. ------------------ 1992 GT 5.0L Convertible BBK Shorties All Power Super Chip Mass Air |

yea when you get a new one ask for a AOD one..they will swap right in(just have them rotate the back casing 4 u) and they are 10 more amps..or just do what i did and get a 130amp 3g..easy swap
