15" wheels with blizzaks will have no problems in snow.

I just want to say that I remember someone getting very upset last year or the year before when someone on here suggested 14" rims from a 4 cyl. car. The guy went to a junkyard and bought the rims and then the rims didn't fit. Man was he PO'D(I'd be too).
My suggestion would be to make sure they fit before you buy them ------------------ Rick My 89lx(updated 11/5/2000) My 97 Cobra |

I'm not sure what year stang you have SHaFT7.
With 17" I'd assume you have a 5 lug SN95 or newer. Make sure you get wheels with the same number of lugs. From 1974-1993 Mustang's came with 4 lug. From 1964-1973(different pattern and backspacing),1994-2001 they use 5 lug. 1994-2001 SN95 V-6's got 14", 15", or 16" wheels. I think the standard became 15" in 1996, before that 14" steel wheels with hubcaps was the base offering. The GT's came with 16" standard wheels, with optional 17" wheels, and the Cobra's came with standard 17" wheels. Four banger stock Fox stangs 1979-1993 all got 14" wheels I'm pretty sure. From 1979-1984 "TRX" metric wheels (3 spoke) went on the upgraded cars, you cannot use standard tires on them, they are actually a little more than 15". The 5.0 models from 1985-1990 got 15" wheels. Then from 1991-1993 exc Cobra 5.0's got 16" wheels. The 1993 Cobra had 17" wheels (five lug I think). From 1974-1978 the lower models got 13" wheels, and the upgraded Mach 1 and Cobra II's along with the King Cobra got 14" sets. I'm not sure about the backspacing though. From 1964-1973 they had a different 5 lug bolt pattern than newer 5 lugs, along with totally different backspacing, so these I'm sure, will not fit your car. |

Make sure that the wheels you get aren't too small and will clear your calipers.

What year mustang do you have??
I'm pretty sure some of the fox bodied 4 banger came with phone dials(10 holes), as I remember seeing them on the car lots. |

As long as you don't have upgraded calipers.
I don't think the "phone dials" were availible on the 4 bangers. Although the SVO model was a 4banger, it had 16 holes, but they were 5 lug and 16". |

will 15" wheels make that much of a difference over 16" wheels w/ snow tires on each?

Get the 15" 10 holes & put 215(or 205)/60/15 snows (like the blizzaks) on all 4 corners for the best results.
15" are better in snow than 16" because you can use a skinnier 60 series tire to cut thru the snow better (& it's cheaper too!). rbatson - yeah, I remeber that incident from last year also - boy, was he cheesed.... 14" will not fit on a '87 or newer 5.0 (actually only on the front due to bigger disk brakes) ------------------ 91 coupe 3.73's,long tubes,2 1/2" exh, ported stock t-body,ProM-77mm cobra intake, edelbrock heads,B303,1.72 rr's 36lb inj's,tremec, & a Paxton NOVI 2000!!! 11.020 @128.95 on BFG Drag Radials (275/60/15) |

don't pay over $100 for the set of phone dials.
Sisustang- I felt bad for the guy. I couldn't believe someone on here gave advise on something they apparently didn't know a damn thing about... [This message has been edited by rbatson (edited 02-12-2001).] |

I have had bald tires on my coupe all winter....never had a problem. (3) 50LB bags of sand in the trunk and off I go, and I mean bald as hell bald. I also agree with slow 87, winter is almost over. If you survived this long, why bother...

the whole point is i didn't survive, i went into a ditch once, and couldn't get out of my apt parking lot twice....i don't want that to happen again... i realize that there's sometimes where a mustang won't go ANYWHERE, but i wanna do everything i can to prevent that
i already have 3 70lb sandbags in the back, but my stang came w/ 17" wheels and sport rubber, so it turns into slicks in the snow and they're soo wide that they don't even start to cut thru snow i'm just trying to get prepared for next winter... ------------------ SHaFTed |
