Earned my badge of honor yesterday
Replaced my first clutch along with the flywheel and trans yesterday in my 90 coupe. Previous exp only with Chevy Auto trans. Spent over 2 hrs trying to get the trans to fully seat on the bellhousing by hand. Gave up and verryyyyyy gently pulled in in all the way with the 4 bolts. That scared the Sh** out of me with the aluminum case and bellhousing. Was that a normal experience??
After working under the car for 12 hrs there are original parts all over the place, the silencer is still there Factory and broken radio, orig plug wires too. No kids owned this Stang for sure. ------------------ Frank W 90 5.0 LX coupe Stone stock soon to be daily driver 74 Chevy Laguna Type S-3 305 apart in garage, getting a 454 to put next to it www.chevellepages.com/folingo |

Boy I remember my first clutch job. What a pain in the butt. It took me about 10 hours. The biggest pain I remember was puttin the trans. back in! I remember all the spilled fluid covering my shop floor, the wrenches flying across the shop, the skinned up knuckles, you know, all the fun stuff. I think next time I'm taking to my mech. buddy and have him do it.

Did mine last year. It was a pain in the @$$ But it's always a great feeling to say that you did everything on your car yourself!

I always gotta do my own work, the only way to go for me This was my first Ford mechanical experience beyond tuneup and oil change stuff. At least half the time was how do I get at that bolt etc... That Ford Motorsports clutch feels pretty stiff, hope to fire it up tomorrow !

wow, clutch is an easy job. If your heater core ever goes, dont even try it if clutch kicked your butt.

Anyways, usually the transmission will seat up against the bell housing by simply wrestling it up there. But, I have also done the exact same thing you described with carefully pulling it into place by tightening 4 fasteners. It works, just need to be careful. Sounds like you're bleeding blue now... ------------------ fordgasm CLICK HERE to see my 87 GT |
