Stang vs Iroc
There are some Chevy guys around here saying an Iroc will kill my Mustang. I think they are full of sh*t. They are talking about the late 80's/early 90's Iroc with the 350 engine. I really want to show these guys up. My question is, are these butt ugly cars really faster than a 87-93 Mustang?

Regarding the contest between the two vehicles, this time period, in my opinion, was when both of these cars were he closest in h.p and torque. And later started to seperate a bit, making it more difficult to compete in the 1/4. Not the street light contests, they will always be relatively close. If they are stock and you have mods, have fun and make them eat the words that come from thier mouths, but make sure they are stock, or you may get suprised......I doubt it though, smiling........

Equal drivers the Mustang will win. However, having owned one previously I think that the Iroc gets off the line easier when comparing gears(I think - 3.27 in Iroc and 2.73 in Stang?). The Iroc seems to have a little better traction off the line, which usually dictates the winner in such a close race.

I love stangs, but I KNOW the 350 irocs are the quick ones. The '87 iroc 350 was the baddest of them all. I don't know the mods of either, but my best advice would be to try and hook up and beat him with shiftin'. I ran one of them that had gears and a shift kit and it almost kept up with my stang with the mods listed below..but then again, my tires were in smoke..if i had tires, it would have been a different story...hehehe...gggrrrrrrrr. I think you'll get him though...Josh

An Iroc can kill your mustang, most can't. The 350 can be made fast(just look at the ls1), if its a stock Iroc... no problem, but beware the set up. Sniff Sniff... I smell a set up here. Nos or cam, intake, heads can make this car fast.. though I agree its probably worn out by now(most I've seen have had it). Oh and I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I don't find the Iroc hard on the eyes.

Irocs have 3.42 grs i beleive, and haldled well, but the fox should outrun it in the 1/4.
And rbatson, the ls1 is not to similar to the iroc 350 at all. Although an ls1 in a iroc would be a mean setup ------------------ 90 lx coupe: Mac cold air fenderwell, accel supercoil, advncd ignition,3-core radiatr, FMS alum D/S, Black magic fan, 3.27grs, 3chbr flows. If the Iroc (350?) is stock, you should take him with no problem by third gear. Now you won't spank him too bad, i would say 1/2 to full car leanth. I had a brand new 350 iroc, back in 87. The 5 speed Stangs would always be knocking on my door. Six month later i sold it and bought a used 88 Mustang GT. I had the 88 for 10 years, before buying the the 93GT i have now. Eventhough i grew a chevy guy, pound for pound the Mustang is a better car.

My best friend has one that we have made run 12.80 @ 108. In stock trim you can kill an Iroc. I used to tell those guys to get in my car. I would give them a ride in my car first, and laugh because they never wanted to race after that. If you like, I can get the my buddie to verify. HE THINKS THEY SUCK in stock form, and he drives one.

What is the difference with the LS1? I don't mean electronics-wise.

The new LS1 shares zero parts in common with the old 350. In fact, it's not even a 350. If I remeber, it's practically the same bore stroke as a 347 stroker kit for the 5.0.
The entire engine is different. The old LT-1 and the IROC motor however are pretty closely related. Different heads intake cam and all that junk still though. I've never had a problem stomping the old IROC. Not even close. |
